Roswell Community Masjid is striving to be the 1st
faith-based Living Building in the world
The Living Building Challenge is the world’s most ambitious and holistic sustainable building standard and certification. The Kendeda Building is currently the only certified Living Building in Georgia.
Living Buildings are:
- Regenerative buildings that connect occupants to light, air, food, nature, and community.
- Self-sufficient and remain within the resource limits of their site.
- Create a positive impact on the human and natural systems that interact with them.
Living Buildings must meet all 20 “Imperatives” that are contained in 7 performance areas called “Petals.” The use of the word “Petals” was inspired by flowers. Flowers are a metaphor for regenerative infrastructure; they receive everything they need from their site and leave nothing behind except for seeds that produce more flowers. Moreover, the project must prove that it is net positive water and energy over a 12 month period of continuous occupancy and operations.
