It’s official! 

In May, the Vision99 team registered our project with the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) to take on the Living Building Challenge. This milestone officially sets the goal for our new campus to become the first faith-based Living Building project in the world. This marks the beginning of a journey to transform our new property into an innovative, cutting edge, regenerative campus, or as ILFI puts it, a campus that is socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative. 

It is an exciting time and a huge commitment that our community has determined to take because of the Islamic values embedded within the Living Building Challenge. These values include environmental stewardship, bringing benefit to the earth and humanity, and being conscious of how our actions affect others and the environment.  

If successful, the new campus will be net-positive in energy, it will optimize the use of every drop of water bestowed by our Creator, and it will select every item used in construction in a manner that provides a healthy and beautiful environment to all community members. When completed, our campus will become a magnet for people around the world to visit and will inspire people by the innovation and stewardship it takes to build a sustainable building to serve a sustainable community. 

The opportunity is vast and the challenge is tremendous. The journey has just started. As Muslims, it is important for us to pause at this moment and renew our intention. We are striving for Ihsan (excellence) by using our resources thoughtfully and responsibly as a form of gratitude to all the blessings that Allah (SWT) has bestowed upon our community. This is an opportunity to make the right intention, turning this effort into a form of ‘Ibadah (worship).
